Report written by Katrina C.
It’s that time again! No, not ball pit time. No extra hour for you!
Time for the AnimeNEXT Report! I know, you’re weeping with joy. Please, contain your tears until the very end. Kleenex will be provided at the end of the reading.
I didn’t stay at the Double Tree or any nearby hotels because Stefanie lives in the area, so I can’t really report on the stay, however, I heard no complaints from anyone other than elevator issues (which is a problem at pretty much every con).
This was my second time at AnimeNEXT, and I was not disappointed. My only complaint about the set-up was that Main Events, Artist Alley, and the Dealer’s Room were pretty compact and pretty high in traffic. The staff, however, did a pretty good job at moderating this, so props to the staff.
Registration was a little crazy, and I felt a little unorganized, but that was only due to speculation. I don’t have any accounts to confirm or deny my suspicion.
Artist Alley was standing room only. I don’t know how people managed to get in there, let alone get to a table to check out people’s wares. This wasn’t so bad Friday, and Saturday I didn’t even attempt it, but Sunday…it was pretty nightmarish. I will say however that the artists here were extremely talented, and I wished that my wallet had been a little (read as: a lot) bigger than what it was, because I would have poured all of it to these talented people.
The Dealer’s Room was a little better as far as movement is concerned, and the set-up was rather nice. I didn’t find myself bumping into too many people, and most attendees seemed to subconsciously follow an invisible flow of traffic, which made browsing a lot nicer. Of course, the merchandise were things you would see at any convention, and there was plenty of it. Three aisles and the left and right walls were lined with various anime, K-Pop, J-Rock, and science fiction items.
And if you found your way all the way to the back, you found yourself in the cafeteria that had a variety of cheap and easy foods, as well as beverages to help fight against the fiendish sunlight outside. This was a nice reprieve for many congoers.
As far as panels and events went, I was unable to attend anything, including the Rookiez is Punk’d concert Friday night, much to my upset. Therefore, I have nothing to report on this.
In short, if you don’t mind collapsing of heatstroke in your cosplay, this was the convention for you. I’m only sorry that I cannot report on more.
Until next time.
